Tajikistan’s extractive sector is relatively undeveloped. Mining accounted for 22.6 per cent of the total industrial sector in 2017. Tajikistan is rich in over 50 types of natural resources and holds more than 600 deposits discovered during the last couple of decades. There are more than 40 deposits of coal in Zeravshan-Hissor, South Hissor, Pamir-Darvaz and South Fergana regions. There are also reserves of lead, zinc, copper, bismuth, antimony, mercury, gold, silver, iron and wolframium (tungsten). These deposits have been found suitable for mining.
